Rocksavage Power Station
Rocksavage Power Station, in Runcorn, Cheshire, is an 800 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant near the junction of the River Weaver and River Mersey. Built by Bechtel for £375 million, it was opened in 1998 by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. The site is owned by InterGen, part of Sev.en Global Investments, and operates as Rocksavage Power Company Ltd.
The station burns natural gas in two Alstom GT26A turbines, each paired with a heat recovery steam generator that powers an ABB 280 MW steam turbine, achieving around 58% efficiency. About 300 MW supplies the nearby Ineos chemical complex, with the remainder exported to the National Grid through Scottish and Southern Energy.
Rocksavage also supports the local community, sponsoring sports and cultural groups and hosting school visits. The plant’s name derives from the nearby Elizabethan Rocksavage mansion ruins, linking it to the area’s heritage.
