The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, located 17 km off the Norfolk coast, was developed by Scira Offshore Energy (now Equinor and Statkraft) and completed in 2012. It consists of 88 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines with a total capacity of 317 MW, spread over 35 km² in the North Sea.

Electricity is exported via 145 kV Nexans cables to shore near Weybourne Hope, connecting to the grid at Salle, Norfolk. Offshore substations were built by Areva, and the Port of Wells-next-the-Sea serves as the main maintenance base.

Costing around $1.8 billion, the project generates enough power for 220,000 homes and produces about 1.2 TWh annually. Sheringham Shoal remains a major milestone in the UK’s offshore wind growth, showcasing the technology and investment that shaped later North Sea projects.
