The Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm, located 8 km off the Holderness coast near Withernsea, generates 210 MW from 35 Siemens 6 MW turbines—the first commercial use of this gearless design. Covering 35 km², it became fully operational in May 2015 and is operated by Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy).

Initially awarded to Total in 2003, the project passed to DONG Energy in 2007. It received government approval in 2011, with construction starting in 2014. The UK Green Investment Bank and Marubeni Corporation later purchased 50% of the project for £240 million, jointly investing in the build.

Key contractors included Ramboll (substation design), Nexans and LS Cable & System (cabling), and Bladt Industries (foundations). The site connects to the grid at Salt End via underground 275 kV cables. Built at a cost of around £500 million, Westermost Rough supplies power to over 150,000 homes and remains a pioneering example of next-generation offshore wind technology.
