Historical Generation, Demand & Carbon Intensity

Electricity generation mix, demand and carbon intensity for Great Britain between 21/10/2026 and 27/10/2026. Use the time period, date picker and source controls to explore data from 2009 to the present, or switch between GW / % and Mix / Type. The generation legend toggles individual sources and shows average output (GW), share (%) and total energy (GWh) for the selected period.

The middle chart and table show National, Transmission System, Actual Net and Actual Gross demand alongside embedded wind and solar, interconnector exports, pumped storage pumping and station load. The lower chart shows grid carbon intensity at point of generation (gCO₂eq/kWh) and emissions by source (kt for the period, or t when hovering a single interval).

Generation and carbon data typically update within 1–2 hours; settled demand for the previous day is published around 10:00 each morning, so demand can lag by up to a day. Hover or tap the charts to inspect individual intervals (30m, 1h, 1d or 7d). See data sources for definitions and methodology.
