The Rusholme Battery Energy Storage System is a 35 MW / 70 MWh grid-scale battery facility located in North Yorkshire, England, developed by Harmony Energy and owned by Harmony Energy Income Trust. The project was energised in 2024 and forms part of the continued expansion of large-scale battery storage capacity across the UK. Construction was managed by Tesla, with the system optimised and dispatched using Tesla’s Autobidder trading platform.

Designed to enhance grid flexibility and support the integration of increasing amounts of renewable energy, the Rusholme BESS stores surplus electricity when demand is low and discharges it back to the grid during peak periods. Its operation helps balance supply and demand on the GB network, relieve local network constraints and contribute to long-term energy security as the UK transitions toward net-zero emissions.

Following energisation, the Rusholme site became one of several battery projects operated by Harmony Energy Income Trust, increasing the fund’s total operational storage capacity across Great Britain. The facility reflects the growing role of battery storage assets that provide revenue through energy trading, balancing and ancillary grid services within the UK electricity market.
